Learn Typing and Computer Skills for Elementary School
In this 6-week typing & computer literacy course, students work on: typing with two hands, how to use a mouse, how to copy and paste, how to save a file. This class is designed to help students learn to type with confidence without looking at the keyboard or resorting to typing one finger at a time. Students will learn to type based on what they see, hear, and think. Each class is gamified. Using a combination of teacher directed activities and typing software, this class makes learning to type fun.
Participants must take “Learn Typing & Computer Literacy Skills (Level 1)” before joining this class and should have completed the course with an average typing speed greater than 10wpm.
Suitable for:
– students who have experience typing with two hands
– students who may not type fast, but would like to maintain regular practice

Does this class assign homework?
Students who do the homework, generally see the greatest benefit from this class. Many students join this class as additional support to a typing class they may have at school or at their local library. Part of this course involves learning to navigate a computer with minimal adult assistance. For this reason, when a student is struggling to do tasks like share screen, minimize a page, or close tabs the teacher will talk with the student to help them solve the issue without an adult assisting. The goal is to help each student feel more confident in their computer usage skills and of course develop healthy typing habits.

Learn Typing and Computer Skills for Elementary School (Level 2)
In this 6-week typing & computer literacy course, students will continue to grow their computer literacy skills by focusing on: typing with two hands, typing what they see, typing what they hear, typing from thought, and more common keyboard shortcuts. This class places a greater emphasis on typing speed and includes collaborative games. Each class is gamified. Using a combination of teacher directed activities and typing software, this class makes learning to type fun.
Participants must take “Learn Typing & Computer Literacy Skills (Level 1)” before joining this class and should have completed the course with an average typing speed greater than 10wpm.

Pre-requisite:
Student should be familiar with proper hand placement and correct typing form.
Students who “hunt and peek” will not be able to maintain enrollment in this course. Families will be redirected to Typing Level 1.
Students must be able to mute, unmute, turn off their camera, turn on their camera, and screen share without parental assistance.
This class is designed for students to work independent of parental assistance. If your child requires parental assistance for cognitive or physical needs, then please message us prior to enrollment. Your learner may benefit from a different class or class format based on their needs.

Essay Writing Practice Group
Keep up your essay writing skills by practicing writing a new essay every few weeks in this ongoing essay writing class. This class is ideal for students who have taken one of Choreography by Rae’s writing courses. Many of our writing students experience an improvement in their essay writing skills upon completion of class, but still need a second pair of eyes as they continue writing essays for other classes. This class is designed to provide that ongoing support. Students who have not taken one of our writing classes but have a strong understanding of essay structure are welcome to join.
*** This is not a substitute for a private lesson. Students are expected to have essay writing experience.***
About Essay Writing Practice Group:
What is practice group?
Each week students practice writing essays using the brainstorms and outlines to organize their work. The teacher will assign an essay format and topic that best matches the student’s grade level. Student will work independently on their essays. Based on group needs the instructor may offer a short demonstration of how to use a brainstorm and outline for writing an essay. The instructor is will require new participants to share their brainstorm and outline before having them write their essay. One an essay is started the instructor provide basic feedback on essay structure/ requirements (example: asking students to clarify their thesis).
***Student who are not open to feedback or unwilling to make changes to their work will not benefit from this practice group.***
What to expect?
Some students may choose to spend their class time creating an outline, while others may be able to start their essay in class. Students are not expected to finish an entire essay in class, and the teacher will not be able to read the entire student essay. For new students completing 1 essay may take anywhere from 2-4 sessions depending on the essay format and the student’s writing experience. We do not “assign homework” because it is not a class. The teacher may encourage a student to work on their essay outside of class.
***This is not an essay writing class. Students should have solid essay writing experience before joining this group. ***
Students may be encouraged to continue working on their essay outside of practice group.

Creative Writing Level
Does your preteen like writing stories and creating characters? Maybe they like writing but struggle to organize their ideas. In this writing course, young writers will learn to organize their work, while exploring different writing styles and focusing on the narrative voice.
Each week, students focus on a different writing format. Following a group Welcome & Share, we’ll do a short warm-up activity (either a writing prompt or a Kahoot!). Next, the teacher will use slides to facilitate a conversation on the writing format of the day. Students will be asked to help read a short passage out loud, before they begin writing independently on their own work.
Through the use of both writing prompts and writing challenges, writers will explore their writing ideas while improving their writing skills. Students will learn to give feedback to their peers and use feedback from others to improve their own work.
In our final two weeks, students will take one of their written works from weeks 1-8 and adapt one story into a one-act play.

Each class is 75% writing, 25% discussion and reading.
Students are asked to complete their writing assignments outside of class.
Prerequisites:
– basic reading comprehension (at least 4th grade level).
– basic understanding of proper punctuation and cognition of common punctuation symbols (period, question mark, comma, quotation mark).
– ability to navigate zoom and multiple webpage tabs without parental assistance
– learners should feel comfortable using google docs.
Class Participation Expectations:
– Students will be asked to complete writing assignments during class and outside of class.
– Class participation includes reading out loud material assigned by the teacher or material that the student has written.
– Class videos are only available for viewing after class, if at least one student has attended class on the scheduled date.
Students must use an electronic device that offers both a camera and a microphone.
