Exploring Explanatory and Compare & Contrast Essays
In this 55-minute class, students will complete 2 essays. This class focuses on writing an Explanatory Essay and a Compare & Contrast Essay using a 5 paragraph essay. Unlike many writing classes this is not a lecture course! Less than half of our time in class is spent on instruction. Students will have about 30 minutes of in class writing time and are encouraged to use their time wisely. This class is very hands on and the instructor provides individual feedback to students to help them better understand teacher feedback. Our goal is to help students feel more in control of their own writing process and more informed regarding teacher expectations.
Creative Writing
Does your preteen like writing stories and creating characters? Maybe they like writing but struggle to organize their ideas. In this writing club, young writers will explore different writing styles. Through the use of both writing prompts and writing challenges, writers will explore their writing ideas while improving their writing skills. Students will learn to give feedback, each week on exploring a different writing style.
On Demand Essay Writing & Book Clubs
Writing| Middle School Essay Writing
Through 8 sessions, students work to write to write academic essays. This course provides a review of grammar concepts and guides them through writing an Explanatory Essay and a Compare & Contrast Essay. Students who submit work to the instructor will receive feedback.
Book Club| Percy Jackson & Greek Myths
In this self-paced course students will read and analyze Greek myths and the book, Percy Jackson & The Lightening Thief. This class is designed to build critical thinking skills, literary analysis skills, and discussion skills. Written assignments, teacher feedback available.
Book Club| Gothic Literature
In this self-paced course students will read and analyze gothic tales from author Edgar Allan Poe. This class is designed to build critical thinking skills, literary analysis skills, and discussion skills. Written assignments, teacher feedback available.
