What age do you offer tutoring for?

Online tutoring is available for ages 7 to 16. Ages 7-9 split lesson time between reading, writing, and grammar.

My kiddo is in 2nd grade. What would lessons look like?

Learners ages 7-9 start spend their private lessons time working on grammar, writing, and reading comprehension. While a 1st grader may have rules on word sounds and sentence structure to start off their lesson before reading out loud a story, a 3rd grader’s lesson would incorporate grammar rules, reading, and writing. Over the course of an academic semester, lessons begin to focus more on writing clarity

My 3rd grader is new to typing? Are private lessons a good fit?

Students who are still able to benefit from private lessons. If we do not have a live typing class that suits your schedule, the tutor will send your family a list of activities that your child can do, to improve their typing confidence. We have had students as young as 7 participate successfully. Keep in mind a 7 year old using a table to type may need a grown up  to assist from time to time. While kiddos learn to work independently, it is not uncommon for a parent to assist tech wise for the first 2 lessons.

My 10 year old hates reading books. What should we do?

We understand that many parents feel frustrated with trying to get their kids to enjoy reading. Unfortunately, students who only read graphic novels or listen to audiobooks, tend to have lower vocabulary skills, including poor spelling. This leads to poor writing skills. Many students who claim to “hate” reading, have fallen in love with our adventure stories. As sign of a good book is when kids are asking, “Can we read the next book?!” before they’ve even finished the first book in a series. If reading interest is a concern for your family, please let us know, so that we can ensure we incorporate an action adventure tale into the lesson.

Do we have to buy any books?

Many stories are provided in class via screen share or as PDF files; however, some stories (Percy Jackson & The Lightening Thief) are not provided by our organization. Stories that are not provided are easily available via a local library or in a digital format for a kindle or other e-reader.

My child needs help with a English homework assignment. Can you help?

If your child specifically needs help with a homework assignment or is preparing for High School admissions exam  we are happy to help.  Students are expected to provide instructions on the homework requirements (having this information before our session will allow for a better use of our time).

If the homework assignment is a Blog post, students should be able to provide clear instructions to the tutor, regarding what the homework requirements are since blogs are less formal in general.

If the homework assignment involves commenting on a book/ story, the student should have knowledge of the story prior to joining the session.
