In this self-paced class students will will complete 2 essays. This class focuses on writing an Explanatory Essay and a Compare & Contrast Essay. This class introduces the 5 paragraph essay. Previous essay writing experience is not required. Some knowledge of grammar is helpful even if the student is unclear about the difference between a noun and a verb. Students should expect to do some light research for their second essay.

Unlike many on demand writing classes this is not a series of lectures! The system taught in this On Demand course is introduced through short videos, but also supported by teacher feedback. Students who wish to receive feedback on their written work, may post their essay to the classroom on Fridays. Our goal is to help students feel more in control of their own writing process and more informed regarding how they communicate with others.

This class is designed to build critical thinking skills, essay writing skills, and editing skills.

About the writing assignments:
Printing course material is optional but not required.
Families that wish to receive feedback will receive a Google Docs link that students can write on. We cannot accept material written on paper or shared with the teacher via photo, scan, or pdf.

Please note: Students who do not do the homework on time or skip steps, tend to spend a lot of time trying to catch up. This can lead to unfinished essays or poorly written essays.
